After Rio de Janeiro announced the cancellation of the street Carnival, now it’s São Paulo’s turn to live up to the expectation of this decision. The future of the revelry should be announced this Thursday (6) after a meeting led by Mayor Ricardo Nunes.
The impasse comes at a time of growth in the number of Covid-19 cases in Brazil, due to the Ômicron variant, and influenza influenza.
So far, in addition to Rio de Janeiro, other capitals have already announced that there will be no party this year. They are: Campo Grande (MS), Cuiabá (MT), Teresina (PI), Belém (PA), Fortaleza (CE), Florianópolis (SC), Curitiba (PR) and Salvador (BA), in addition to Olinda (PE) , one of the most traditional festivals in the country.
In Rio, Mayor Eduardo Paes announced the cancellation of the party during a live at the beginning of last night, and stressed that the samba school parades, at Marquês de Sapucaí, will be maintained.
“We are going to establish the protocols for the carnival in Sapucaí, which has been confirmed. There, we can establish effective controls. In a way, this is also true for parties in closed spaces, it is possible to control them”, said Paes.
In São Paulo, there is the possibility of transferring the revelry to the Autodromo de Interlagos, in the south of São Paulo. According to journalist Monica Bergamo, the decision will only be announced tomorrow.
Meanwhile, other cities have already adopted the, say, ‘new model’. And one of the reasons is the facility for capacity control, immunization, etc.
In the capital of Bahia, for example, Camarote Salvador announced the change of location. Leaving the Barra-Ondina circuit, where it normally used to take place, the event will take place outside the Salvador Convention Center, on the edge of the city.
According to the organization, access to the event can only occur upon presentation – both by customers and employees – of the complete proof of vaccination.
Another party in the city, Carnavalito – which will have bands like Timbalada and Harmonia do Samba – will take place at Arena Fonte Nova.
